Cabin 24Ingrid Michaelson has debuted the music video for her version of Mariah Carey’s “All I Want for Christmas Is You,” featuring former Hamilton star Leslie Odom Jr.
The black-and-white clip features Ingrid and Leslie singing at two separate mics as two dancers perform an interpretive dance around them. It all plays out in one long take.
“The dancers represent our souls and emotions and their interplay, while Leslie and I are separated by distance, really illustrates this longing in a beautiful way,” Ingrid says in a statement.
Her version of the Mariah holiday classic is much more melancholy than the original.
“I’m just such a fan of the song that I had to find some way to cover it that would vibe with the rest of the record,” Ingrid adds. “To me, the song is really about longing for someone who can’t be there with you. We stripped it down, added strings and tried to pull the sentiment and emotion to the forefront.”
The song appears on Ingrid’s holiday album, Ingrid Michaelson’s Songs for the Season, which is out now. She heads out on tour with her vocal trio in support of the album on November 26.
