Republic Records/UMGAriana Grande‘s all about treating herself to the finer things in life in her new single, “7 Rings,” which she released just after midnight last night.
Set in large part to the melody of “My Favorite Things” from the classic musical The Sound of Music, Ariana makes it perfectly clear that she doesn’t need to be in a relationship to enjoy herself, or her hard-earned money.
“Wearing a ring, but ain’t gonna be no Mrs.,” she sings. “Buy matching diamonds for six of my b******/I’d rather spoil all my friends with my riches/Think retail therapy my new addiction/Whoever said money can’t solve your problems?”
The video shows Ariana and dozens of her closest female friends partying in high style in a luxury mansion, draped in jewels and drinking champagne.
Speaking of those matching diamonds, word is “7 Rings” was inspired by a shopping spree Ariana enjoyed to take her mind off of her breakup with Pete Davidson, during which she’s said to have bought herself and six friends diamond rings.
“7 Rings” is the third single off of Ariana’s forthcoming Thank U, Next album, following “Imagine” and the title track.
