Vincent PetersKelly Clarkson is putting her own spin on the track “American Woman,” which serves as the theme song for the new Alicia Silverstone series of the same name.

In a behind-the-scenes clip, we see Kelly recording the song in the studio as she explains the process.

“I got to see the whole trailer for [American Woman] and the vibe of it, which I love, and I kind of got together with Jason Halbert, the producer of this song, and we wanted to create this moody kind of vibe and kind of pay homage to that ’70s classic sound of it, too,” Kelly says in the clip.

“American Woman” was originally recorded by Canadian rock band The Guess Who as an anti-war protest in 1969 and covered by Lenny Kravitz in 1998.

“There are all these things that we love and we felt we wanted to represent American Woman and the whole lyric of it,” Kelly adds. “The strength and the boldness and the powerfulness I feel like American women exude.”

American Woman, the series, stars Silverstone, Mena Suvari and Jennifer Bartels and centers on the women’s liberation movement of the 1970s. It premieres June 7 at 10 p.m. ET on Paramount Network.
