Taylor Swift, Ed Sheeran win “Billboard” Live Music Awards

Getty Images For dcp via ABC/Emma McIntyre/AMA2018Pals Taylor Swift and Ed Sheeran had two of the biggest tours of the year, so it’s no surprise that both artists won Billboard Live Music Awards at a ceremony held Tuesday night.

Ed’s Divide tour was named Top World Tour, beating out both Taylor’s Reputation tour and Beyoncé and JAY-Z‘s On The Run II trek. But Taylor won Top U.S. Tour, beating out Ed and, again, Beyoncé and JAY-Z.

But it was Ed who ultimately triumphed: He also beat out Taylor and Bey and Jay to win Top Tour, as well as Top Draw.  The Top Tour is for the highest-grossing tour of the year, while the Top Draw award is for the best-attended tour of the year — meaning the one that sold the most actual tickets.

The Top Boxscore Award, for the highest-grossing single engagement by an artist, was won by U2 for their four shows at a stadium in Sao Paolo, Brazil last October.  The Irish superstars beat both Ed and Taylor in that category.

At the award ceremony, Taylor’s ex-boyfriend, John Mayer, received the prestigious Legend of Live Award for his extensive touring career.  He said one of the secrets to his success is by working with friends who eventually become his “family” on the road.
