Jeff Kravitz/AMA2016/FilmMagicFans are in an uproar over the fact that Nicki Minaj has pushed the release of her new album Queen back to August 17.  It’s not because they’re anxious for the music, though — it’s because they believe that Nicki did it intentionally, to hurt sales of Ariana Grande’s album Sweetener, also due August 17.  But both artists insist that’s not what’s going on at all.

Noticing the heated discussion on Twitter about the shared release date, Ariana tweeted, “jesus is this what’s going on today? imma jus stop logging in at all lmfao. that’s my f**king sister.”

She added, “Buy and stream queen & sweetener aug 17 bye. these numbers don’t mean as much to the artist as they do to y’all. jus want y’all to listen to the project.”

Ari also pointed out that Nicki delayed her album by a week so she could get permission to use a song sample, not for any nefarious reasons.

Nicki then chimed in, tweeting, “I love this woman. Can’t wait for the fans to benefit from all the hard work on both ends. We love your passion. You guys will be VERY happy. Trust. That’s all I’ll say.”
