Dennis LeupoldValentine’s Day will mark the one-year anniversary of the release of “Love Lies” — and it’s still going strong.  Normani’s duet with Khalid has just spent its 45th week on Billboard’s Pop Songs radio airplay chart. That ties the record set by Dua Lipa’s “New Rules” last year.  Normani says hundreds of performances later, she’s still not tired of singing the song.

“[It] feels fresh every single time I sing it — it doesn’t get old,” she tells ABC Radio. “I mean that’s my first record that I created as a solo artist.  That’s my first baby!  So it’s really amazing and I’m so blessed that people resonated with it.”

While Normani couldn’t have foreseen that the song would be popular for an entire year, she says she and Khalid had an inkling when they recorded it that it would be a hit.

“You can never be too sure, you can always hope for the best,” she says. “But we knew that there was something special once we finished the record together — and that’s all you really need.”

While “Love Lies” is Normani’s “first baby,” she’s had quite a few since then. She just released the video for “Waves,” her duet with 6LACK, and her duet with Sam Smith, “Dancing with a Stranger,” is climbing the charts.

So far, there’s no word on when we can expect Normani’s debut solo album, but you can check out her solo music live starting March 18, when she opens for Ariana Grande on her Sweetener tour.
