Last week, Taylor Swift penned an essay for Elle UK magazine about songwriting, and Halsey jumped on Twitter to gush about it, which led Taylor to respond in kind, saying Halsey made her “grin and blush.”  Both artists are fans of one another but when it comes to songwriting, Halsey thinks Taylor’s the G.O.A.T.

On Twitter, Halsey described Taylor’s essay as “gorgeous,” particularly the part where Taylor talks about the importance of including “evocative details” — especially personal stuff — in songs.

Halsey tweeted, “Being specific [means] your audience will trust your experience, [and think] ‘there’s no way she could have made that up…’ & no one does it better than T, who taught me this a decade ago by calling a redhead by name.”

Halsey was referring to Taylor’s hit “Fifteen,” which is about her real-life best friend Abigail Anderson, referred to in the song as “red-headed Abigail.”  A while back, Halsey told ABC Radio what Taylor — and that particular song — means to her.

“Taylor’s one of the greatest female songwriters of all time — greatest songwriters of all time, screw female!” Halsey said. “She had a huge impact on me when I first started writing. I think the first song I ever learned how to play on guitar and sing….well….was ‘Fifteen’…it’s a really beautiful, nostalgic record.”

Taylor’s admiration for Halsey extended to including one of her early songs, “Is There Somewhere” in her 2017 Spotify playlist of “Songs Taylor Loves.”  But which Taylor record would Halsey choose for a similar playlist?

“There’s so many old ones that are really good,” she tells ABC Radio. “Speak Now is one of my favorite albums of all time…I’d put that album in a time capsule in my life, I think. That’s a really great one.”
