Justin BettmanJason Mraz reveals in a new interview with Billboard that his wife, Christina Carano, helped him come to terms with his sexuality.

“[I’ve] had experiences with men, even while I was dating the woman who became my wife,” the singer says.

He admits he was initially confused by it, but Carano was understanding.

“It was like, ‘Wow, does that mean I am gay?’ And my wife laid it out for me,” he says. “She calls it ‘Two Spirit,’ which is what the Native Americans call someone who can love both man and woman.”

He adds, “I really like that.”

In fact, according to Indian Country Today, Two Spirit is used in some Native communities to describe a person who identifies as having both a masculine and a feminine spirit.

Jason previously opened up about his sexuality back in 2005. In an interview with Genre magazine, he said he was “bisexually open-minded,” and that while he had never been in a sexual relationship with a man, he wouldn’t rule it out.

His new album Know. comes out August 10.
