Campbell Addy for Teen VogueIn the lyrics to her new single, “I’m a Mess,” Bebe Rexha sings about her therapist reassuring her that it’s going to be a “good, good life.” Now in a new cover story with Teen Vogue, the singer is opening up further about struggling with anxiety and how therapy has helped her.

“I cry a lot. It’s tough,” she tells the mag. “I have my own therapist and I have people I talk to. It’s an everyday battle, I feel.”

Bebe says she was anxious when she was a little girl and the feeling only intensified when she went to college. But once she figured out the feeling was anxiety, she was able to tackle it. Now, she knows the key is to keep herself busy, curb her social media use and channel her emotions through music.

“I’ve always had fear and anxiety [about] wanting to be accepted,” she says. “But when I’ve shined the most and people have related to me the most, was when I was able to not eliminate those anxieties, or those fears, or insecurities, but to kind of just push through them.”

Bebe adds, “Obviously, they always come back. They’re never gone. But now I’m able to face them head on.”

Bebe’s new album, Expectations, drops Friday.
