BMGAhead of Friday’s release of her long-awaited new album Head Above Water, Avril Lavigne has released new track called “Dumb Blonde,” which features Nicki Minaj.
“Nicki is such a talented, strong woman and driving force,” gushed Avril on Twitter. “I listen to ‘Fly,’ ‘Starships’ and ‘Bed’ all the time. Having her on the song is so special to me.”
“We wrote ‘Dumb Blonde’ as an anthem for anyone who has been stereotyped or talked down to,” she added. “Keep your confidence up and don’t let anyone tell you how to be. I hope you love it!”
Nicki is a big fan of Avril’s too. She tweeted, “I used to drive to my job @ Red Lobster playing this woman’s album for an hour straight everyday for months. Crying to ‘I’m with you,’ blasting ‘complicated’ ‘things I’ll never say’ ‘nobody’s fool’ ‘sk8er boi.’ omg…This woman is so unbelievably talented.”
The female empowerment anthem features Avril chanting, “I ain’t no dumb blonde/I ain’t no stupid Barbie doll
I got my game on (Just watch me)/Watch me, watch me, watch me prove you wrong.”
Nicki chimes in, “All the hatin’ you was doin’ got the Barbie poppin’/Now all of ’em wanna be a Barbie, I’m watchin’/But you never gon’ stop me, never gon’ top me/Millions on millions, they never gon’ dock me.”
Avril’s album release week includes a Wednesday appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, a Friday morning appearance on ABC’s Good Morning America, and Live with Kelly & Ryan on Monday.
